A contemporary treasure, made in 2003 in London, this ring features timeless oval diamonds alongside two purple sapphires. Complementary rather than identical, the purple tones of the sapphires could be seen as representing two people.
Sapphires have been recognised as gemstones since ancient times, symbolising wisdom, fidelity and devotion. Although synthetic sapphires may sound like a recent discovery, synthetic corundum (the gemstone group to which sapphire and ruby belong) was developed more than 100 years ago, in 1902 by French chemist Auguste Verneuil. His methods are still used today.
Sapphire is the birthstone of September and the traditional gift for a 5-year wedding anniversary. Fully hallmarked for 18 carat gold, London, and a year marking 2003.
